I have been taking lipitor and it causes terrilble gas and abdominal pain - what else can I use? I have called my dr. and waiting for him to call back. Can't sleep at night from the terrible pain and diarreha. I had stent put in right artery one month ago, thus the mega 80mgs of lipitor. Taking Plavix also. Would Nexium taken right now help the damage that the lipitor caused? What else can I do right now to stop the pain and the diarreha? Have never had this kind of pain before and it scares me. Would appreciate any help from you. I have posted before and have gotten good advice. thank you.

Say replied: "Nexium is not a "fast acting" drug. So it will not give you immediate relief. Are you eating fatty foods with the Lipitor? That is the most common cause of those side effects. Maybe the Dr needs to lower your dose."

Billie77 replied: "Imodium tablets - take two every time you have a bowel movement will stop the diarrhea. The supplement , "red rice yeast" will take down cholesterol levels as good as any medical drug, two capsules twice daily. There are no side effects. Also metamucil and lecithin will reduce cholesterol levels. Try these and I can guarantee there are no negative side effects."

the_only_solorose replied: "Lipitor is not the only antilipemic out there, just stop taking it, and ask your doctor for a different one."

mom of 2 replied: "I am so sorry you don't feel well, and especially on top of having your stent put in. But I have been on Lipitor for several years now and have never had this side effect from it, and I have irritable bowel syndrome where everything bothers me. So I'm wondering if it's really the Lipitor or just that your body is under stress right now from everything that's going on. You may even have eaten something that didn't agree with you. Or maybe the Lipitor and the Plavix don't work well together for you. So I would not take any more meds till you talk to your dr. You don't know for sure what's causing this and you don't want to make it worse. Try calling your pharmacy and ask if they can recommend anything. Try using a warm heating pad on your belly, that may make it feel better. Have some hot herbal tea and watch some TV to distract yourself. Sorry I can't be of more help to you. I hope you feel better soon."

What causes your stomach to bloat? Have persistent stomach pain? is it from drinking too much carbonated drinks? I had an endoscopy done because I was having bad abdominal pain. Taking Nexium and Prolisec and it still persist? What should I do? thanks answerer for pointing out about the meds. I only took one then the different one.

4 years of Right Upper Abdominal Pain? For four years I have been dealing with intense right upper abdominal pain. And when I say intense, I mean I can't hold a job because this pain is so incapacitating. It's right at my waist to about two inches above, 5-8 inches in diameter, spanning across my side. Sometimes it's worse in the front, sometimes in the back. Obviously I've seen a doctor for it over this period of time. I'm not constipated. I don't have gall stones. My gall bladder is functioning at 91%. My liver is fine. My appendix is fine. Everything looks fine on an ultrasound. Everything looks fine on a CT scan, liver, kidneys, gall bladder, everything. If it weren't for the fact that I'm in constant, furious pain I'd be in perfect health. Recently I had an endoscopy, and I was told that my upper esophogeal sphincter doesn't work properly, so I'm on Nexium, Reglan, and an anti-depressant for "pain regulation." Well, it's not helping. I'm still in pain, and no one can tell me why. Any ideas? Oh, and I was a vegetarian for 6 years, my diet hasn't affected the pain, though I haven't tried gluten free or anything like that. I've been praying for years for a solution to this pain, and have been devout in following the commandments set out by my religion with the hopes that my faith and devotion would move God to help me out. Well, I'm still in pain. So I'll be focusing on the medical side of things. Thanks anyway.

Abdominal pain issues again...? Well I recently asked a question about constant abdominal pain radiating to the back (upper). Well I recently started taking Nexium and now the upper middle abdominal and back pain seems to have subsided but now its the lower back and abdoman...The consistency of my stool has changed, and it feels like I have to go so much but it's only a small amount that is disposed...( that sounds so gross..) my stool consistency was normal before I started the Nexium and less blood...but now there is more blood...Constipation , and loose stools..with blood..bright red blood... Is this normal to happen with Nexium? I'm going insane with constantly worrying! I do not have insurance right now but am trying to find a free clinic and have not succeeded yet... Thank You!

Chocobo replied: "OH NEXIUM.....I was on that drug for a time, and while it cured acid reflux, it brought very bad constipation with only a little stool. :( It is also one of the more expensive medicines for that type of issue. I'm taking a knock off brand of Protonix and I feel a lot better. But you also want to get to the root of the problem making sure its not something that brings constant bowl problems. The pain in your upper back and abdominal could be from the backing up of all the "poop" but more importantly from your gallbladder maybe. Because if you have just bowl problems like IBS or something, it can be from a source that you really don't think about. For me, I hated the doctors, so I did a lot of research on google to help figure out what was wrong. I hope you get better, I know bowl problems are embarassing and can ruin your daily life. Just know that there is hope if you try to listen to your symptoms and try different things."

Pain in the upper right abdominal with off and on pain sometime severe in the center of the chest.? Please if you could help. I have had a chronic pain that is located about 1 inch to the right and slightly up, from my belly button. A CT scan showed I have a "bad" kidney on my left, an enlarged kidney on my right and an enlarged liver. I have had a Hida scan to test my gallbladder and that came out alright. I have also been on several medications, Aciphex and Nexium. With no relief of the right abdominal pain. What worries me is the fact that almost every day in the last 4 months I have had pain in the center of my chest that is not really relived by Tums, Alka-sezlter, or the Nexium. What seems to help is the Ativan I have for nerves and I don't know why that would help if it is acid reflux or heart related.

Jeremy H replied: "I could be anxiety related. I would try a visit to a chiropractor and a relaxing hobby."

Upper abdominal pain right below strenun? I have had abdoninal pain steadily getting worse since tuesday. It is almost right on my sternum it feels like a big baseball pushing outward and it wount go away.ive had ulcers in the past and they have healed. my Gi doc told me to double up on my nexium but hasnt helped. The pain is very dull and almost like someone is pushing there way through my upper ab/ sternum(thats how high it goes) i had blood tests and it was normal. regular abd xray was normal. what could this be it is killing me... its right on the sternum in the mid section and a little below. any suggestions on what this could be?? thanks.

Strapped replied: "I have had the sme thing before---feels like an air bubble is stuck in your chest, I have almost gone to the hospital several time thinking it was a heart attack.. I always drank some baking soda in water which sometimes seemed to help. Mine is caused by reflux/indigestion. Increasing your nexium hopefully will help it."

ted j replied: "heartburn? eat small meals and don't eat late. avoid onions, peppers and tomatoes."

RM commando replied: "hey, sorry to say it looks like you are going to have to cut the cigarettes and the alcohol, the tablets can only do so much, try cutting both for a while make sure your drinking to propper amount of water a day, if it goes away then you have conquered half the battle wein yourself back on both and see what happens."

Hiatal hernia- Severe Abdominal Pain & Pressure (Please ONLY serious answers)? I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia in 2002. I'm only 24 yr old. I have been having alot of burning pain/nausea for years. It radiates above my stomach & between my ribs. Within the last year i have been experiencing severe pain & pressure in my stomach that comes & goes. Yesterday i had the worst pain yet. My stomach started cramping really bad with sharp pains.. Hurt so bad i could barely walk. When i laid down i had so much pressure pushing up that i had shortness of breath & it was hard to breathe . I took a nexium & zantac & about 2 hours later the pressure was relieved but still had excruciating pain in my stomach & between my ribs. Then all of a sudden i got the chills really bad & was running a fever; Tylenol brought fever down in the next hour. I started to go to the ER, but decided to wait it out. Today i woke up with really bad nausea & the same stomach pain. I'm not looking to be diagnosed, just wondering from others who have a Hiatal Hernia, if this has happened to them.

Maryn Bittner replied: "It sounds like you are more than ready to get this surgically repaired. I've had friends and a relative have this done, and recovery time was short, problem 100% solved. I don't see any reason for you to have endured years of pain and nausea when there's a reliable procedure which ends the problem."

mlgable replied: "The fever and chills are not related to your symptoms but your other symptoms are all from the hiatal hernial. I am wondering why you don't consider getting it repaired so you don't have to worry about it any more. Also some of your problems could be gallbladder in nature so do go see a doc to be sure everything is ok. Consider getting that hiatal hernia repaired though so you don't have to worry about it any more."

Doodlebug replied: "You need to go to the doctor that's been treating you for this condition...you may have a bowel obstruction... Monitor your temperature...if it's elevated, then go to the ER...a bowel obstruction is nothing to fool with. This is serious business. Just because you have a hiatal hernia DOES NOT MEAN you should have fever...something else is going on for sure..."

Right side abdominal pain radiates to right flank no temp nausea or vomiting? been having this pain for approx 3 weeks. i'm a 41 year old male with no past medical histories or surgeries. it first sarted on my left upper abdomin along my ribs, now its on my right side under my ribs with the pain radiating to my right flank described as a dull ache to a slight sharp pain. no nausea or vomiting. my bowel movements have not been normal, been just as frequent, stools have been soft. and i feel bloated after i eat. went to MD he gives me Nexium and did blood work, the blood work for my liver was 130!! it was 112 a year ago,,2 MD's don't seem worried. he says come in in 3 months to have it checked again. only meds i take is a baby aspirin once a day. a multi vtm, Nexium, and Milk Thistle i never watched my diet,,,i eat anything and everything. i have had no weight loss or gain. not sure if this is a GI thing or a liver gallbladder issue,,,,,kinda worried (not used to being sick,,,lol) i havent been having any urinary issues that i'm aware of,,urine is of normal color and frequency, no blood or anything. no blood in my stools either.

beauty b replied: "Why don't you check with your GI doc again? he/she is the one with the right answers"

islandgirl92075 replied: "It could be your gallbladder. I had mine out about 6 years ago. My pain was in my abdomen but radiated to my back and shoulder. But everyone's pain is different. Ask your doctor or get a second (or third) opinion."

Kristine M replied: "Could be gall bladder, should rule out urinary probs too. Go back to your doctor, and ask him to take a urine sample. I don't know what bloodwork you've had, but maybe a CBC, amylase, lipase, Urea, and Creatinine would be helpful. Next I would ask for an abdominal ultrasound, or more specifically an ultrasound of the gall bladder. Have you had abdominal films or a CT. You need to advocate for yourself, and push for these tests. Your doctor could be overlooking something serious."

Help me please I have many PVCs (heart palps) and chest/abdominal pain after eating, any ideas? After I eat I get bloated, belch alot, have many heart palps that i am sure are PVCs, and I get chest pain...especially in the upper left quadrant, but sometimes in my back and in the area of my liver. I have a history of SVT and have had two ablations. My bowel movements are much different than they used to be, lighter in color and very different in consistency. Every time I eat a meal I get this...I am on Nexium for peptic ulcers...could there be anything else here? I am negative for H. Pylori. Could this be gallstones?

ptmamas replied: "gall bladder ....go to a doctor as soon as possible ... you need to be seen i just had the same thing done ..you need an ultrasound of your gall bladder just to be sure"

The Dude replied: "Go see your doctor!"

lalaland...123 replied: "have you consulted a doctor about this? it's important that a test is done on you to see what causes the PVC's. you mentioned bloating -- i think you need to cut down on the amount of sodium you consume everyday -- read labels carefully all the time (including sodas and other drinks). excess sodium can cause water retention -- therefore more fluid in the blood -- ths will cause hypertension. severe hypertension can trigger PVC's."

catherine h replied: "Don't eat"

pretty_gurl19 replied: "Try to avoid very spicy foods. Eat slowly (it takes about 20 min. to eat at the right rate!). Avoid lying down or leaning way back right after you eat. Plus tell your doctor."

dulcern4u replied: "It sounds like you have a combination of things going on. The change in your bowel movements tend to indicate a gallbladder source. The belching, bloating and abdominal pain tend to indicate possible reflux problems. The arrythmias and chest pain can be related to the irritation from reflux as well as possible ischemia to your heart. Whenever you eat, blood flow is diverted to the gut to aid in digestion and absorption. People with coronary occlusions or stenosis are often very sensitive to any blood flow diversion (less blood and oxygen to the coronary vessels) and they have chest pain and/or arrythmias related to the ischemia. Best advice is to follow up immediately with a cardiologist and a gastroenterologist. Your indicated a previous history of SVT, so your heart is already pretty sensitive-don't delay in getting needed workup to prevent more detrimental problems. Best of luck"
